:: SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM – COMMUNITY FOCUS
Aiming to make aware, to inform and to guide the population on the caution that must be taken when crossing railways and roads, ALL annually promotes an accident prevention program. In 2002, the project was widened and began to make part of the Safety Improvement Program, which comprises other community actions, such as the Signalization of Passages Program, created in 2001, aiming to render more safety to the crossings with railways in critical points of the rail network.
To guarantee the population awareness, the campaign invests in the production of posters, ribbons, folders, plastic bags and pamphlets containing safety tips for drivers. These materials are distributed mainly among the community who lives or works next to rail lines.
Performing an important role in the campaign, children are the most receptive ones and transmit their knowledge to their parents, influencing them and spreading the information. Therefore, ALL frequently promotes educational lectures in public and private schools, informing students about the importance of respecting the railroad and the cautions to be taken when crossing railways. They also learn about the dangers and consequences of vandalism, which may cause train accidents.
